It has often been suggested that words have some sort of inane power. A single word can be used to build someone up or to tear them to shreds. Love. Hate. Goodbye. Words caress, ignite and devour the human spirit. As a child, I spent my days with my nose buried in books, hiding from a world around me that felt unbearable. My books were oftentimes my only comfort.
When we look at the history of our species, words have had undeniable influence on cultures and civilizations around the world. Look at the power of great speakers to change the world; Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Adolph Hitler, Nelson Mandela, Pericles. Words stir emotion in us, and may even move us to action. But is there more to it than that?
“Without knowing the force of words, it is impossible to know more.
In the early 1990's a researcher and doctor of alternative medicine, Dr. Masaru Emoto, began a study of water from around the world. His work revealed that there is an unfathomable connection between water, language and emotions - a connection which is altered by our individual, as well as collective consciousness. Dr. Emoto's work provided photographic evidence that thoughts, as well as spoken words (and the emotions that drive them) have the ability to PHYSICALLY alter reality.
Even more profound - the study of quantum physics (the how, what, and why of everything in the Universe, both seen and unseen is created) has proven that everything is a formation of the same energy, and thus all connected by that energy. As a very basic example of this study, quantum physicists discovered that if they thought, "I want to see an atom," or "I want to see an energy wave," then that is precisely what they saw. Amazing, right?
Thoughts, which are energy, same as everything else, can be used to manipulate or shift aspects of your life through a process of energy (in this case, your thoughts) shifting to a sub-atomic particle level and then intermingling with other energies at a certain frequency which creates a change in your physical reality.
Sounds complicated huh? Let me rephrase:
Creating a positive vibration (thought) will essentially cleanse and positively energize the energetic field or environment surrounding you. The way we feel, what we believe, and more importantly, WHAT we think - has the power to change us on an emotional and physiological level as well as to alter our life in various (physical, tangible) ways. In essence, this is the scientific compliment to the notion of manifesting your own destiny.
What we think (especially about ourselves) affects our physical health in more ways than you probably ever imagined. Extensive scientific and medical research has also been conducted to examine the body's physiological reaction to both positive and negative emotions. The limbic system of the brain, which centers around emotional response, can alter a person's physical and mental health in a number of ways.
As I am not a doctor, nor is the focus of this article to give a scientific explanation for how emotions affect the body, I will leave you with a few resources if you would like to learn more:
